At first, when I saw these 'balls' I thought that they probably were some insects preying on the plant, but then I figured out that the balls could actually be the fruits! I've done some research today, and I found out that they're in fact fruits. I saw similar fruits on the Dave's Garden website:

Frankly, the fruits look quite as men's testicles ;)

Kiedy pierwszy raz zobaczyłam te 'kuleczki' pomyślałam, że to pewnie jakieś owady żerują na roślince, ale potem przyszło mi do głowy, że to w sumie mogą być owoce! Poszperałam trochę i dowiedziałam się, że to faktycznie są owoce. Zobaczyłam podobne na stronie internetowej Dave's Garden:

ReplyDeleteIn Malaysia, ficus benjamina tree is known as the beringin tree. It is widely planted as a landscape tree. It can be pruned or trimmed to various forms of either round, square, oval and others. The fruit of this tree are eaten by small birds.
This is really interesting. I regret that in Poland we can only grow ficus as an indoor plant. Those in your country must look so beautiful!
DeleteI have a ficus benjamina indoors as a pot plant but have never seen fruits on it. Did you spot flowers before the fruits?
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't see any flowers. I don't think there were any, because I would have spotted them - unless they were very tiny :)
DeleteMon ficus benjamina est comme le vôtre Dewberry. Je suis heureuse de rencontrer une personne qui a aussi ces fruits. Les petites boules grossissent. Moi non plus je n'ai pas eu de fleurs.
ReplyDeleteOn m'a offert un ficus benjamina en 1976 et j'ai toujours mis les tailles à raciner dans de l'eau pour offrir. Depuis 2004, ce "bébé" ficus grandit en hydroponie (eau et engrais pour orchidées tous les mois... car j'ai aussi des orchidées) .
