Eurasian coot: mommy and her brood // Łyska zwyczajna: mamusia z młodymi

Last year in a pond near my house I saw coots for the first time ever .
At first I thought they were strange feathered mallards, but then I found out the birds were Eurasian coots (Fulica atra atra)

They must have wintered somewhere in the thickets because this year there are young coots :)
There are two adults and six or seven young. I wish I had seen them when they were baby coots!

  1. They look very nice. We do not have coots, however this year we have a bittern nesting in the area. We have seen it several times and especially heard its call which is very strange (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAxAEoAVmuc).

  3. Lovely these coots, we have them too in Holland. They made their nest in front of our house alongside the water.
