Small spring awakening // Małe, wiosenne przebudzenie.

When waiting for spring I like to observe plants to see if they know more than me about the date of spring coming :) 

 I'm always happy to see their noses coming out. It's incredible that these small, young plants have so much strength and energy to go through dead leaves that cover the ground. Some are even appearing like out of nowhere.

Czekając na wiosnę lubię obserwować rośliny w nadziei, że lepiej wiedzą kiedy przyjdzie wiosna :)

Zawsze się cieszę widząc ich 'noski' na powierzchni ziemi. Zadziwia mnie to, że te małe jeszcze rośliny mają tak dużo siły, że przebijają liście leżące na ziemi. Niektóre, to w ogóle pojawiają się jakby niewiadomo skąd.

Co nowego w lutowym ogrodzie? 

More snowdrops came out.

Pojawiło się więcej przebiśniegów.

Many tulips are above the ground, this one even lifted its bulb - it probably wanted to grab more sunlight 😉

Wiele z tulipanowych nosków jest już na powierzchni ziemi, jedna z cebulek nawet wyszła całkiem, może chciała zgarnąć więcej promieni słonecznych 😉

Lovely green hemerocallis leaves started to appear.

Pojawiają się młode, jasno-zielone liście liliowców.  

 

 Sedum with its baby leaf rosettes hidden among the old twigs.

Młode rozetki rozchodnika skrywają się między starymi łodygami. 

 Hellebores are ready to open their beautiful flowers.

Ciemierniki czekają, by tylko otworzyć swoje piękne kwiaty.

But this one is a mystery to me. This lovely, dark flowered primrose has been flowering since autumn. What a tough plant!

A to, to dla mnie całkowite zaskoczenie. Ta piękna prymulka kwitnie chyba od jesieni. Ależ odporna roślina!

I even spotted flowering red dead-nettle. These young plants are edible and you can eat them in a salad.

Zauważyłam nawet kwitnącą jasnotę purpurową. Młode listki tej rośliny są jadalne i można je dodawać do sałatek.

It all looks very promising, as if spring was getting closer, but I heard that

 snow and frost is forecast for the next week, so we should be patient.

To wszystko wygląda bardzo obiecująco, tak, jakby wiosna była już coraz bliżej, ale wiem, że na przyszły tydzień zapowiadają mróz i śnieg, więc trzeba się jeszcze uzbroić w cierpliwość. 

Mushroom picking

At this time of year, we always go mushrooming. Weather works in our favour so we're picking them, drying, freezing and of course eating :) 

We have parasol mushrooms growing in our garden, so there're always some to pick.

There are more other species we pick, for example, porcini, or bay boletes. 

When my mom goes mushrooming, she always returns with hundreds of mushrooms :)

We also have some oyster mushrooms growing on a stump. 

Autumn is almost here...

Black cherry (prunus serotonina), picked for a liqueur which is my favourite :) 

Mammoth Grey sunflower is probably too late variety for my region and I'm afraid seeds won't  mature before first frosts, but we'll see, maybe autumn will be warm and sunny, who knows?

Chrysantemums and asters are flowering so it means summer has ended.

Late marigolds are also in full bloom. 

And autumn-colored dahlias :)
